Spring Cleaning…don’t forget to inspection your roof


 

Spring is around the corner and it’s time to keep the promise of new beginnings and fresh starts. As the weather gets warmer, homeowners are thinking about spring cleaning! If spring cleaning is on the to-do lists for your home, don’t forget to include your roof! After harsh winter months, your roof will need some extra care to get your home or business ready for summer. Here are a few important tips when inspecting your roof this spring.


Trim Branches

Some of the biggest threats to your roof are trees. Trim any trees or branches hovering over your roof. Branches are capable of scratching, damaging and completely removing roofing materials. Take a quick look around the outside of your home and see if there are any branches that are getting a little too close to your roof.


Clean Gutters

There is a good chance after the cold winter months and spring rain the gutters will be clogged with debris and dead leaves. After any debris is cleaned out, flush the gutters and downspouts with a hose. After cleaning, check for any damage like sagging, holes, or detachment from the roof itself. Gutters should be cleaned on a regular basis to avoid

serious damage to your landscaping, foundation and home.


Check Shingles and Flashing

Shingles are the first line of defense on your roof. After a harsh winter, you may notice damage to the flashing and shingles. Inspect the roof for loose or damaged flashing and look for missing, loose, curled or buckling shingles. Lastly, look for stained or signs of streaking on the shingles. This indicates there is a roof’s ventilation system may be damaged.


Inspect from Inside

Take a look at the roof from the attic space. This step is often overlooked but is very important in the process of inspecting your roof. If there are any sources of light, moisture or moldy smells, it's likely that there is damage to the roof. Once you identify the source, give Jenack Construction a call to assess the damage.
